We have received many requests for information on the creation
of our web sites, "Who did it ?, Was it hard to do?, how long did it take?, what do I
need to get started?, how much money does it cost?, where do I start ?, etc.We have created this site for anyone who wants a website
for there business or pleasure but is not sure where to start.
Having created a few of are own Websites, like http://marksthespot.com we can share with
you our experiences and make some suggestions that may save you some money and more
importantly your "TIME" .
None of what I'm about to share with you is written
in "Stone" so if something I suggest doesn't feel right, by all means find
another solution.
Let"s begin
We are assuming you already own a computer, if not that's a good place
to start !
Purchase one from a company that can offer you "Support" we bought ours from "GateWay" but there are many other good
companys like " Dell
". 
When making your selection buy one with the biggest "Hard Drive" the fastest
"Processer" and as much "Memory" as you can afford. Ours is a
Pentium II 450mhz 17gig drive with 128 MB of memory. We know, there are bigger and
faster one's now but at the time this was it !!
- Most computers come pre-loaded with lot's of software including a "Word
Processer" (Microsoft Word) . If you know HTML (a computer
language) a good word processor is all you will need but if your like most people, us
included, you don't know HTML or never even heard of it. Don't worry that's ok
because there are software programs that write HTML code for you ! We use FrontPage98 and we love it ! Click here
for FrontPage Discription. There are others so look around if your not sure about
FrontPage. A new version is out called "FrontPage2000"
and can be purchased and delivered to your home by following this link. Purchase

- Ok ... now were making web pages with our New HTML editor but we need a name for our new
Web Site. No dought you'll want somthing special that people will remember , your
own URL ... www.yoursite.com
We we use Network Solutions to register all of our New ULR's you can too. To see

text.
- Ok... now you have a great URL now what ?? The next thing you will need in order
to build your web site is a place to "Host" your web pages on the Internet or
a "Virtual Domain Website Hosting

What you don't want to do is
to purchase server space by the "Page". My first experience was to
purchase 5 pages of server space, at the same time, I was charged a fee for each of
the pages on a per month basis as well as a ton of limits on what I could and could not
put on my pages.
This was awful, very constrictive and
I quickly learned that I needed way more than "5" pages.
My next attempt was to get one of
those "Free" sites offering 10 meg's of space...
( I was broke at this point...)
This worked for awhile but I out grew it very quickly and again very constrictive and
extremely "Slow" from an overloaded server as most free services are and a very
long URL. (example) http://www.freeyellow.com/members2/somedirectory/yoursite/page.html
They also have there advertising banners all over your site !! So we feel our Hosting service with it's Super Fast servers and Huge
space is the way to go !
So ... now we have our web pages made
and hosted on a Virtual domain so it's time to let the world know about our Web site.
Search Engines are the most common method for this and your going to need another
piece of software to inable you to index your site so that you achieve the highest ranking
possible.
"WebPosition
Gold " This is a must !! Don't even think about not having this
program. WebPosition will help you design "Entrance Pages" and automate the
submission process. Getting a high ranking is important and staying there is tuff, WebPosition
will make this much easier.
There is another Website submission program called "Submit Wolf"
we like this one too but can be a little pricy due to the cost of monthly updates. Check it out you might just like

after getting there.
Ok.... you should be well on your way at this point. Don't
forget, when designing your web pages there are certain guidlines to
follow and remember to Follow-Up with your
customers. Another way to keep in touch with your customers is to start
a Newsletter. We use ListBot to publish
our Newsletter, it's a free
service so take a moment and sign up.
Another method to get your product or service marketed on a larger scale
is for you to have the ability to sign up "Affiliates"
This a a great program and these folks really work with you to get your Affiliate Program set up on
your site.
If your planning to have a retail site and sell things on-line you'll
need a "Shopping
Cart" this allows your customer to buy products on your site and put them
in a vertual shopping basket and later check out after figuring tax and shipping. We
use "Shopcart" and found them to be the most secure and one of the simplest to
